The Morrisville State College women’s volleyball team opened the 2012 season with two losses Saturday afternoon, falling by match scores of 3-0 to both Hilbert College and D’Youville College in the Alleghany Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) – North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Challenge held at D’Youville.
In the first of the day, Hilbert claimed the win with set scores of 25-13, 25-16 and 25-13 over the Mustangs. Allegra Johnson led Hilbert with 10 kills and six digs, while teammate Shannon Memminger registered 22 assists and six service aces.
Tiffany Jones-Maxwell (Hamilton, N.Y.) and Dayna Scurry (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each tallied four kills in Morrisville State’s efforts, while Alexis Hansen (Taberg, N.Y.) posted nine defensive digs.
In the second match of the day, D’Youville claimed the 3-0 victory with set scores of 25-15, 25-15 and 26-24.
Molly Minkiewicz posted 11 kills for the Spartans in the win, with Natalie Rieman assisting 17. Lara Svensson had a team high eight defensive digs for D’Youville.
Scurry led the Mustangs with nine kills; while Jones-Maxwell added seven with Lindsay Easterly (Cazenovia, N.Y.) registering 20 assists.
Kylie Murphy (Nichols, N.Y.) led Morrisville State’s defensive efforts with 12 digs in the match.
Morrisville State returns to the court Saturday, Sep. 15 traveling to Paul Smith College.
