Host Morrisville State College women’s volleyball appeared for the first time on the Mustangs newly renovated court and didn’t hesitate as they claimed a convincing 3-0 victory over visiting Paul Smith College Friday evening in Morrisville.
The Mustangs improve to 5-13 overall with the win, while the Bobcats drop to 3-15.
Morrisville State dominated the first two matches, claiming the set wins with 25-8 scores before posting a come-from-behind victory in the third with a set final of 25-20 to take the match.
Dayna Scurry (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led Morrisville State with 10 kills on the night, adding a solo and assisted block at the net, as teammate Tiffany Jones-Maxwell (Hamilton, N.Y.) added nine in the attack game, making an assisted stop at the net.
Lindsay Easterly (Cazenovia, N.Y.) set up 23 assists in the match, adding five defensive digs and a solo and two assisted blocks at the net.
Jackie Saddlemire (Knox, N.Y.) led the defensive efforts, recording nine digs, as Kylie Murphy (Nichols, N.Y.) added four, also registering five kills and five service aces.
Morrisville State led just 12-5 in the first match before Megan Moses (Norwich, N.Y.) served up nine straight points to five the Mustangs a commanding 20-5 lead en route to the set win.
In the second, Morrisville State led just 4-2 before Jerrae Morgan (New York, N.Y.) extended the advantage to six with four straight service points, with Moses adding four more two rotations later, paving the way to the Mustangs 25-8 defeat.
Morrisville State posted an early 5-2 lead in the third match with three straight service aces from Maranda Owens (Brookfield, N.Y.) before Paul Smith’s battled back to take the lead until the 17th point. After three rotations, the Mustangs regained the lead for good, with two straight aces from DeeAnna Rammelt (Westfield, N.Y.) as they posted the 25-20 victory for the match sweep.
Morrisville State returns to the court Wednesday, hosting Utica College at 7 p.m.
