Morrisville State students receive liberal arts awards

Morrisville State liberal arts students were recently honored for their achievements during the 14th annual Liberal Arts Tea. The event is part of the college's annual celebration of academic excellence.



The Liberal Arts Theater Participant-of-the-Year Award, given to a student who excels in theater productions on campus or assisting with productions, was presented to Kalena Sutton, of Pulaski, a horticulture business management bachelor degree major. Sutton participated in every theater production while at Morrisville, serving as a stage manager, dancer, chorus member and lead in two productions.



The Liberal Arts Athlete-of-the-Year , presented to a student who is a role model in both athletics and academics, was presented to Kaylin Johnson, of Jamaica, a journalism and communication for online media bachelor degree student. Johnson, who played football, was also involved in many campus clubs and organizations and was named to the Dean's List.



The recipient of the Criminal Justice Student-of-the-Year Award was Andrea Williams, of Brooklyn. Williams, who was inducted into both the Alpha Phi Sigma and National Criminal Justice Society honor societies, also served on the board of the Criminal Justice Club and for the honor society.



The Humanities Student-of-the-Year Award, presented to an outstanding liberal arts major, was awarded to Jenni Viviano, of Afton, a liberal arts and sciences: humanities and social science student.



Mollie Carter, of Oriskany Falls, a journalism and communication for online media bachelor degree student, was named the Journalism Student-of-the-Year. Carter served as editor of the college's newspaper The CHIMES. She also excelled academically and was named to the Dean's List.



Named the Science, Technology and Society Student-of-the-Year was Packard York Haynes, of Earlville.



The Social Science Student-of-the-Year Award was presented to Dale Durant, of Munnsville, a liberal arts and sciences: humanities and social science student.



The first-ever Art and Doris Roberts Scholarship, based on exemplary student achievement, was presented to Rachel Harris, of Eaton, a liberal arts and sciences: teacher education transfer-early childhood education student. The scholarship honors Art Roberts, professor emeritus of humanities at Morrisville State, and his wife, a college supporter.



The Liberal Arts Tutor-of-the-Year Award, given to a student who excels as a peer tutor in the Academic Enrichment Center, was presented to Andrea Williams, of Brooklyn, a criminal justice bachelor degree student.
