The Morrisville State College softball team posted their fourth straight victory Sunday afternoon, topping visiting Wells College 1-0 and 9-1 in double-header action in Morrisville.
The win boosts Morrisville State to 9-9 overall, 6-4 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action.
In the bottom of the first inning of game one of the day, Nicole Geier (Mayfield, NY) stole home to score the lone run of the game to give Morrisville State the victory.
Freshman Jenna D'Ercole (Highland, NY) threw the win, allowing four hits, and tying a collegiate best 13 strikeouts in 29 batter's faced.
In the second, Wells held a 1-0 lead after four complete innings, but the Mustangs responded with five unanswered runs in the bottom of the fifth, adding four more in the sixth en route to the 9-1 conference victory.
Geier led the Mustangs from the plate, hitting 1-for-3, tallying a run, adding five put outs in the field. Kara Collins (New Berlin, NY) was 1-for-4, recording a run, while recording a collegiate best four put outs and four assists in the field.
Sophomore Amber Nichilo (Staten Island, NY) collected the win on the mound, throwing six innings and one earned run on seven hits.
Morrisville State returns to the field tomorrow at Hamilton College.
