The Morrisville State College softball team picked up two wins Sunday afternoon, topping visiting SUNY Cobleskill 5-2 and 6-3 in double-header action in Morrisville.
The Mustangs improve to 7-9 overall and 4-4 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action, while Cobleskill remains winless at 0-12, 0-10 in NEAC play.
In game one, Morrisville State led 2-1 before Jessica Rigg (Homer, NY) hit a single in the bottom of the fourth inning, driving in two runs to give the Mustangs a 4-1 cushion. Cobleskill responded in the top of the sixth, but Morrisville State added another to secure the win.
Rigg and Kayla Walker (Oneida, NY) each were 1-for-3 from the plate, recording two RBI's apiece.
Jenna D'Ercole (Highland, NY) recorded the win, throwing six innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs, while posting eight strike outs.
In the second of the double-header, Morrisville State jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the end of the first, adding two runs each in the third and fourth innings to hand Cobleskill the 6-3 loss.
Gabby Gallart (Montgovery Village, MD) led Morrisville State from the plate, hitting 2-for-4 and tallying a run while Cassandra Smith (Lansing, NY) went 1-for-3 with two RBI's.
Amber Nichilo (Staten Island, NY) threw seven innings and allowing two earned runs, while posting five strikeouts in the win for the Mustangs.
Morrisville State returns to the field tomorrow, hosting Wells College for a double-header at 3 p.m.
