The Morrisville State College women’s softball team dropped two Friday evening, falling 8-0 and 14-1 in double header action on the road at Elmira College.
The loss drops the Mustangs to 0-6 overall on the season.
In the first of the day’s action, Eileen Farrell (Johnsonville, N.Y.) recorded the lone hit as Morrisville State dropped the 8-0 decision in six innings.
Farrell’s hit came in the sixth inning on a single that left her on base as Elmira collected four additional runs in the bottom of the inning for the win.
Jenna D’Ercole (Highland, N.Y.) recorded the loss, throwing 5.1 innings and allowing 10 hits and eight runs, while posting five strike outs.
In the nightcap, Morrisville State trailed 4-0 after the opening inning before bouncing back and crossing the plate in the top of the second for their lone score of the contest. Elmira went on to add four additional runs in both the second and third innings for the 14-1 victory.
Courtney Purcell (Fabius, N.Y.) led the Mustang efforts from the plate, going 2-for-2, both singles. Farrell and Tori Schultz (Taberg, N.Y.) each were 1-for-2 from the plate, with Schultz recording an RBI to score Kayla Walker (Oneida, N.Y.).
Tiffany Burks (Macedon, N.Y.) threw the loss for Morrisville State, pitching 4.1 innings, and allowing 12 hits and 14 runs (12 earned) while striking out one.
The Mustangs return to the field Wednesday at Cazenovia for double header action.
