Morrisville State skates to 4-1 upset over #15 Neumann

The Morrisville State College men's ice hockey team turned up the heat in the second and third periods to post an upset victory over the visiting #15 nationally ranked Neumann College Knights by a 4-1 final in Morrisville.



Morrisville State improves to 7-5-1 overall with the non-conference win, while Neumann drops to 8-5-3.



The Knights were first to strike, as Mat Valois (Ottawa, ONT) put Neumann's only score past Morrisville State goaltender, Colin Breen (Waterloo, ONT), 3:23 into the period.



Just over 15 minutes into the second, Curtis Renaud (Carlisle, ONT) found Derek Matheson (Durham, ONT) for the game tying score and minutes later, Jonathan Cristini (Mississauga, ONT) fired one past Knight goaltender Ross MacKinnon (Manchester, CT) for the 2-1 Morrisville State lead. Taylor Vince (Barrie, ONT) and James Jarvis (Pickering, ONT) were credited with the assists.



In the third, Brent Quinn (Perth, ONT) extended the Mustang lead to two just 2:09 in, netting the score off assists from Cristini and Jarvis, before Geoff Matzel (Chittenango, NY) sealed the win with a score in the 15th minute.



MacKinnon recorded the loss for Neumann, turning away 38 as Morrisville State held the 42-27 advantage in shots on net.



Caylin Relkoff (Grand Forks, BC) earned the win between the pipes, making 14 stops in the final 35:09. Breen tallied 12 saves in the first 24:51 of play before being relieved by Relkoff.



Morrisville State returns to the ice tomorrow for the second of the weekend's double header against Neumann. Face-off is at 3 p.m. at the Iceplex.
