The Morrisville State men’s soccer team fell to nonconference opponent SUNY Canton Wednesday night, 1-0, in Morrisville, NY.

The Mustangs drop to 9-4-1 overall and remain 4-1-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play.

After playing a scoreless first half, SUNY Canton took advantage of an early opportunity in the second half when Shane Powell thread the ball through the Mustang defense to Marvin Palmer, who finished the shot past Morrisville goalkeeper Rob Larkin just over a minute into the half.

Both SUNY Canton and Morrisville State had several scoring opportunities throughout the game, as the shot totals were fairly even with the Roos taking 19 and the Mustangs 17.

Morrisville State did everything they could to try to even the score and put a flurry of shots on goal in the final minutes of the game. With one minute remaining the Mustangs almost tied the game, as a shot was tipped past Roos goalkeeper, William Banahene, but a defender came in and headed the ball out of the goal at the last minute.

Freshman goalkeeper Rob Larkin (Clinton, N.Y.) recorded the loss with 11 saves, while Banahene earned the win with six saves.

Morrisville State is on the road this weekend as they face off against conference opponent Gallaudet University on Saturday, October 13 at 3:00 PM.
