Morrisville State men's soccer rolls to 3-0 victory over Penn State Berks

The Morrisville State men’s soccer team defeated the visiting Penn State Berks Nittany Lions 3-0 Saturday afternoon in their first annual IACKids game. On top of earning the win, the Mustangs also raised money and awareness for the Italian American Coalition for Kids (IACKids) not-for-profit organization.

After playing a scoreless first half, sophomore midfielder Gilroy Alvarez (Guatemala) beat two defenders as he sliced his way into the center of the 18 yard box and shot the ball past Nittany Lions goalkeeper John Murphy to put the Mustangs up 1-0 at 49:09.

Sophomore forward Jacob Chase (Cooperstown, N.Y.) scored next for Morrisville State as he finished a Jeffrey Hado (Tema, Ghana) cross at 71:16.

Freshman defender Danny Peckham (Webster, N.Y.) scored the final goal of the match as he headed in a corner kick from Joey Plummer (Gates, N.Y.) at 81:16.

The Nittany Lions had their chances, but couldn’t beat freshman goalkeeper Rob Larkin (Clinton, N.Y.) who recorded the win tallying four saves, earning his third shutout this season.

John Murphy recorded the loss for Penn State Berks with eight saves.

With the win, the Mustangs improve to 8-3-1 overall and 3-1-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play.

Morrisville State is back in action against conference opponent Penn State Abington on Sunday, October 7th at 2:00 pm in Morrisville, N.Y.
