Morrisville State men's lacrosse earns post-season honors

The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its Men's Lacrosse All-Conference selections, naming seven Morrisville State College student-athletes to its all-conference teams, as selected by the conference coaches, for the 2012 season.



Morrisville State posted a 10-4 regular season record, and finished atop the conference with a perfect 7-0 record for the third straight season.



Four garnered first team honors, including senior midfielder Andrew Stein (Oswego, N.Y.), senior defenseman Tom Longland (Dunnville, Ontario), sophomore defenseman Mike Kellogg (Pawling, N.Y.) and senior goalkeeper Michael Hinchey (Lake Katrine, N.Y.). Senior midfielder Devin Maxwell (Culver City, Cali.), freshman attack Jack Martocello (Miller Place, N.Y.) and senior defenseman Matt Fiore (Staten Island, N.Y.) were named to the second team.



Stein was a key component to the Mustangs success this season, and in13 games at midfield, recorded 25 goals and 14 assists for 39 team points (second on the team in scoring), while adding a team high 50 ground balls and two caused turnovers to his tallies. Three of Stein's scores were game winners, and three were registered man-up opportunities. He posted a game high five goals and two assists twice this season, including the conference win over Hilbert in the season finale.



Longland earns first team honors for a second straight season, as he appeared in 13 games for the Mustangs at defense during 2012, posting one goal, and ranking second on the team in ground balls with 46 and caused turnovers (18). He recorded a season high four caused turnovers in the win over Wells and picked up a season best six ground balls in the win over Cobleskill, and ranks fifth in the conference in caused turnovers and 18th in ground balls.



Kellogg had an outstanding sophomore campaign for Morrisville State, at defense. He started and appeared in all 13 regular season games for the Mustangs, recording three goals, one a man-down tally, while collecting 37 ground balls and causing a team high 26 turnovers. Kellogg registered a game high eight ground balls in the win over SUNY IT, and had a collegiate best six ground ball, three caused turnover performance in the victory over Cobleskill. He currently ranks second in the conference in caused turnovers.



A three-time all-conference selection, Hinchey was the backbone of the defensive unit for Morrisville State, starting all 13 games in goal, and playing a total 742 minutes during the regular season, allowing 118 goals, while making 133 saves, for a .530 save percentage and 9.53 goals against average. Facing over 400 shots alone this season, he collected a record of 10 wins and three losses, and posted a conference season high 15 saves in the win over Keuka, earning him NEAC player of the week honors. He currently ranks second in the conference in minutes played and goals against average, is fourth in saves recorded, and third in save percentage on the season.



Martocello had a stellar freshman campaign for Morrisville State, tallying 26 goals adding five assists, while collecting 27 ground balls and caused four turnovers in 13 games this season. One of his scores was a game winner, and another a man-up tally. Martocello posted a game high four goals three times this season, including in the conference victories over Medaille and Cazenovia. He currently ranks 10th overall in the conference in goals scored.



Maxwell appeared in 12 games for the Mustangs at midfield during the regular season, and led Morrisville State in scoring, recording 29 goals and 11 assists for 40 team points. One of his scores was a game winner, three were on man-up opportunities and one was a man-down tally. He also registered 12 ground balls and had one caused turnover. Maxwell posted a game high five goals twice this season, including in the win over Keuka, and posted a collegiate best five goals and an assist against Cobleskill. He is currently tied for fifth in the conference in goals scored and is ranked 13th in points tallied.



Fiore was a defensive mainstay for Morrisville State, appearing and started in all 13 games at defense, while recording one goal while collecting 23 groundballs, causing 17 opponent turnovers. He ranks third on the team in caused turnovers, sixth overall in the conference. Fiore posted a season best six ground balls and four caused turnovers in the win over Hilbert.



Morrisville State will face-off against Medaille College Wednesday, May 9 at 4 p.m. in the quarterfinal round of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Mid-Atlantic Championship Tournament.
