The Morrisville State College men's basketball team posted a 1-1 record at the Hilbert College Tip-off Tournament, recording their first win of the season against host Hilbert on Friday, before falling to tournament champion, John Jay College, Saturday afternoon.
On Friday, Morrisville State shot 46.2 percent from the floor in the second half, outscoring Hilbert 37-23, to record the 73-59 victory over the tournament host. Dwayne Wade (Beacon, NY) led the Mustangs with a double-double performance, tallying 20 points and 10 rebounds, adding five steals. Hodges Sneed (Syracuse, NY) contributed 11 points, grabbed five boards and stole three, while teammate Darren Green (Greece, NY) added 10 points.
Morrisville State and Hilbert were tied at 36 at the half.
In the championship game on Saturday, John Jay College held a 22 point advantage at the half and the Mustangs couldn't overcome the Bloodhound lead, as they fell 93-77.
Sneed posted a collegiate best 30 point and 13 rebound performance, hitting 11-of-16 from the floor to lead the Mustangs, earning All-Tournament Team honors. Brandon Hanks (Syracuse, NY) added nine points, and four assists and rebounds while teammate Kyle Gordon (Riverhead, NY) netted eight points.
Jerome Alexander had 32 points and five boards for John Jay, with Jamar Harry adding 18 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in the win.
Morrisville State returns to the court Tuesday, opening conference action on the road at Wells College.
