Visiting Morrisville State College had five net double figures as they claimed third place at the Buffalo State College Men's Basketball Cole Tournament Saturday afternoon with a 77-49 rout of Keuka College in Buffalo.
Morrisville State improves to 4-6 overall, while the Storm dropped to 1-8.
Andrew Lucio (Solvay, NY) led all scorers with 14 on the day, hitting 4-of-8 from behind the arc, while adding six rebounds, four assists and three steals to his tallies for the Mustangs. Mickey Davis (Syracuse, NY) added 13 points and grabbed six boards, while Kucjok Ater (Syracuse, NY) added 12. Brandon Hanks (Syracuse, NY) and Kyle Gordon (Riverhead, NY) each contributed 11 points in the victory for Morrisville State, while Hanks and Ryan James (Brooklyn, NY) each grabbed seven rebounds in the contest. Hanks also had six assists.
Hanks was named to the All-Tournament team following his performance throughout the weekend.
Teddy Tuggles had 10 points to lead Keuka's efforts, as Coty Paige and Jared Wagner each added eight.
Morrisville State went on a 17-0 run midway through the first period to take a 31-14 lead, before extending it to as many as 27 fueled by seven straight points off the bench from Gordon. Hitting nearly 53 percent from the floor in the half, the Mustangs claimed the 49-26 advantage at the break.
In the second, the deficit was too much for the Storm to overcome, as Morrisville State maintained at least a 20 point margin throughout the half.
The Mustangs controlled the glass, out rebounding the Storm 51-34, while shooting 44 percent from the floor for the contest to Keuka's 31. Morrisville State also hit 10-of-12 from the line, while the Storm struggled, connecting on just 2-of-6.
Morrisville State returns to the court Sunday, January 8th, resuming conference play following Christmas break against Penn State Abington. Tip-off is scheduled for noon in the STUAC Gymnasium.
