Morrisville State men hold on for 74-72 victory over Roberts Wesleyan

Sophomore guard Mickey Davis (Jamesville, NY) netted a game high 25 points to lead the Morrisville State College men's basketball team to a 74-72 non-conference victory over Roberts Wesleyan Saturday afternoon at the Medaille College Tip-off Tournament consolation game in Buffalo.



Morrisville State picks up their first win of the 2011 season and holds a 1-2 record heading into Tuesday's contest on the road at Hamilton College.



Davis hit 8-of-15 shots from the floor, including five from behind the arc, while adding four free throws, three rebounds and four steals to his tallies on the afternoon, earning All-Tournament Team honors.



Ryan Jameson (Greenwich, NY) added 16 points, hitting 4-of-6 from downtown, and grabbed six boards, while Brandon Hanks (Syracuse, NY) contributed 12 points, eight assist and four steals in the victory.



Herbert Alexander led Roberts Wesleyan with 20 points, while Patrick Downer controlled the glass with 10 boards.



Morrisville State went on a 16-5 run to close out the first half with a 46-32 lead over Roberts Wesleyan, shooting 55.2 percent from the floor, while hitting 7-of-11 shots from behind the arc.



Roberts Wesleyan opened the second with a 13-4 run over the first seven minutes to cut the lead to five, and minutes later claimed a one point lead over the Mustangs midway through the final half.



With the lead changing eight times over the next nine minutes, Robert Wesleyan took a one point lead with 1:02 to go on a free throw by Downer, but Hanks hit two free throws to put Morrisville State back in front by one, and Andrew Lucio (Solvay, NY) added another with 16 seconds to go to lift the Mustangs to the victory.



Morrisville State shot 43.6 percent from the floor in the contest, hitting 42.9 percent from downtown and a game high 81 percent from the free throw line.



Roberts Wesleyan struggled from the line, shooting just 40 percent, while hitting 41.8 from the floor, but out rebounded the Mustangs by a 41-33 margin.
