Morrisville State men fall short, Clarkson posts 78-75 victory

The Morrisville State College men’s basketball team dropped their second straight contest Tuesday night, as Clarkson University held on for the 78-75 non-conference win in Morrisville.

Morrisville State falls to 1-2 on the season, while the Golden Knights remain unbeaten at 3-0.

Four recorded double figures for the Mustangs on the night, including Kucjok Ater (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Jailaan Kinsey (Syracuse, N.Y.) who each posted 17. Rhamel Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) added 11 and Brandon Henry (Harlem, N.Y.) 10 in the Morrisville State efforts.

Tom Wilk (Cortland, N.Y.) came off the bench to control the glass for the Mustangs, grabbing nine on the night, including four offensive, while adding nine points to his tallies. Ater and Henry each registered seven rebounds, while Kinsey dished out five assists.

Jerry Coleman led Clarkson with 19 points, hitting 5-of-9 from beyond the arc, assisting three others. John Coleman added 17 points while grabbing a team high eight rebounds and assisting five, while teammate Marques Charlton chipped in 15 and Feliz Abongo 10.

Clarkson built up a 10 point lead at the break, before extending it to 15 with 12:56 remaining on the clock.

Trailing by four with 31 seconds remaining on the clock, Morrisville State’s Ater found a wide open Kinsey on the right wing who drained a three and cut the Clarkson lead to just one with 15 seconds to go.

With nine seconds showing on the clock, Ater attempted to steal the ball but was whistled for a foul, which resulted in two free throws converted by Charles McAllister for a Clarkson three point lead and eventual win.

Morrisville State returns to the court Tuesday, Nov. 27, hosting Keystone College at 7 p.m.
