Morrisville State men escape Medaille for 19-18 win

The Morrisville State College men's lacrosse team used seven unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to escape Medaille College 19-18 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action Saturday afternoon in Morrisville.



Morrisville State improves to 8-2 overall, 4-0 in NEAC action, while Medaille drops to 3-8, 2-3 in conference play.



Morrisville State held the three goal advantage over the Mavericks at the half, but Medaille tallied six unanswered scores in the third to take a 14-12 lead over the Mustangs after three.



In the fourth, Medaille extended the lead to three, but Morrisville State's Adam Lewis (Painted Post, NY) ignited the Mustang offense with three straight tallies to even the contest with less than eight minutes remaining.



Tyler Strassburg regained the lead for Medaille, but Thomas Owens (Cazenovia, NY) pulled it even for the Mustangs with a man advantage tally with 5:23 to go. Owens posted the go ahead score just five seconds later and Mike McGinnis (Syracuse, NY) added another 32 seconds after for the two goal lead.



Brock Levick pulled the Mavericks to within one with 35 seconds to go, but the Mustangs defense held on for the victory, causing a Medaille turnover in the final seconds of the contest.



Lewis posted a collegiate best eight goals and two assists to lead the Mustangs, while Owens added five goals and three assists. Brandon Macera (Chittenango, NY) and Devin Maxwell (Culver City, CA) each tallied two to round out top scoring for Morrisville State.



Kevin Wilkerson (Nedrow, NY) had a team high five assists.



Michael Hinchey (Lake Katrine, NY) posted the win between the pipes for Morrisville, making 10 stops.



Levick had a game high nine goals and two assists for the Mavericks with Strassburg adding six scores and assisting three others.



Brian Roff recorded the loss in net, making 10 stops in the final 45 minutes of the contest.



The Mustangs held the 57-34 advantage in shots, and 46-42 advantage in ground balls.



Morrisville State returns to the field Tuesday, hosting Cazenovia College at 4 p.m.
