Morrisville State Library to feature work of famous New York State artist

The eerie and somewhat disturbing art pieces by New York State native Lee Brown Coye will be on exhibit in the Morrisville State Butcher Library from Halloween night through Nov. 4.



A reception to honor Coye, who died in 1981, will be held in the library on Oct. 31, from 4-5:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to come in costume for the reception which is free and open to the public. This event is supported by the Sheila Johnson Institute.



Born in Syracuse, Coye became famous for the use of wooden sticks in his art as they have appeared in many of his paintings and illustrations.



His art work has appeared in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Everson Museum in Syracuse and the Onondaga County Historical Society.



Along with his famous art work, Coye's drawings have appeared in the pulp magazine “Weird Tales,” “Fantastic and Amazing” and the H.P. Lovecraft collection.



The Butcher Library is open Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m.-midnight, Friday from 8 a.m.- 8 p.m., Saturday from 1- 6 p.m. and Sunday from 1-10 p.m.
