Morrisville State hunt seat opens season with third place finish at Hartwick Invitational

The Morrisville State College hunt seat equestrian team opened the 2012-2013 season Saturday with a third place finish at the Hartwick College Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Invitational held in Oneonta.

Morrisville State tallied 33 team points in the show, being topped by show champion Skidmore (47) and reserve champion Hartwick (38).

Five Mustangs finished a top their respective classes to bring home blue ribbons, including Rachel Kenney (Esperance, N.Y.) in the intermediate equitation on the flat. Kenney also qualified for the regional championships in the class and pointed up to the open equitation over fences class.

Jessica Gurda (Warwick Valley, N.Y.) was the top finisher in the novice equitation over fences class, while Nicole LeFevbre (Clifton Park, N.Y.) took top honors in the advanced walk trot canter class, qualifying for regionals.

Freshmen Alexis D’Auria (Cronton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) and Mikayla Mazure (Camillus, N.Y.) each claimed blue ribbons in their first collegiate show; D’Auria in the advanced walk trot canter class and Mazure in walk trot.

Morrisville State returns to the riding arena on November 10, hosting a show at the Fearon Road riding arena on both Saturday and Sunday.
