The College of New Jersey registered two first half touchdown scores en route to a 14-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) decision over host Morrisville State College Saturday afternoon in Morrisville.
The Mustangs drop to 1-8 overall, 1-6 in conference play, while the Lions improve to 4-5 overall, 3-4 in NJAC action.
The College of New Jersey outgained Morrisville State 382 to 251 in total offensive yards, throwing for 241 through the air on 26-of-44 completions by quarterback Daniel Dugan. Dugan connected with leading wide receivers Matthew Rosati seven times for 72 yards and Glenn Grainger six times for 89 yards on the day. Justin Doniloski led the Lions on the ground, carrying the ball 32 times for 94 net yards.
Defensively, Greg Burns wrapped up nine total tackles, including four solo and one for a loss of four yards, to lead the Lions, while four additional teammates registered six a piece on the day, including Sean Clark who also intercepted two.
Morrisville State quarterback Jory Tanner (Adams, N.Y.) was 11-for-21 on the day for 97 yards and an interception before being relieved by Mychael Hardamon (Roosevelt, N.Y.) who went 4-for-21 for 82 yards and an interception.
Tight end Blake Mosely (Troy, N.Y.) led the receiving unit with five receptions for 81 yards, while Earl Snead (Wappinger Falls, N.Y.) posted eight carries for 30 yards on the ground.
Travis French (Newark Valley, N.Y.) and senior Darry Albright (Long Beach, N.Y.) each recorded nine tackles to lead the Mustang efforts, while senior Jack Glen (Syracuse, N.Y.) added eight.
The College of New Jersey opened the contest with a 33-yard kick-off return to position them at midfield, and got on the board early, finding the end zone on the first drive of the contest on a one-yard run by Nicholas Tyson to cap off the nine play, 52 yard drive at the 11:43 mark.
Maintaining the 7-0 lead, the Lions added another score late in the second quarter as Dugan marched TCNJ 82 yards downfield to complete the 12-play drive with a eight yard scoring pass to Victor Scalici for the two touchdown advantage.
In the second half, Morrisville State was able to drive deep into Lion territory twice, but was kept at bay as the TCNJ defense forced the Mustangs to turn over the ball on both downs and an interception.
Prior to the contest, the Mustangs honored seniors Glen, Albright, Tim Hammond (Hudson Falls, N.Y.), Enrique Robinson (St. Paul, Minn.), Leo Reason (Freehold, N.J.) and Terrance Parson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) for their service to the program for the last four seasons.
Morrisville State returns to the field next Saturday, traveling to SUNY Brockport for the 2012 season finale.
