Morrisville State field hockey stuns Oneonta, pulls off 2-1 upset victory

Morrisville State College scored two unanswered goals in the first half leading to a 2-1 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory over visiting SUNY Oneonta Friday afternoon in Morrisville.



Abby Muraco (Amherst, NY) put Morrisville State on the board just 1:11 into the contest, tipping in a cross from Lauren Bordonaro (North Tonawanda, NY) for the 1-0 advantage.



Oneonta's Rachel Taylor (Southampton, NY) had the chance to even the game at one on a penalty stroke midway through the half, but the attempt was stopped by Morrisville State keeper Kelsey Pellegrino (Cicero, NY).



With minutes to go before the end of the half, Jennifer May (Rochester, NY) netted the eventual game winner, tipping in the ball into the cage on a scramble in front of net on a penalty corner opportunity, extending the Mustang lead to two.



Oneonta's Andrea VanDyke (East Hampton, NY) made it a 2-1 game, converting on a penalty corner at 47:17, but Pellegrino kept the Red Dragons from netting the equalizer as Morrisville State picked up the win.



Leslie Dauphinais (Harpursville, NY) made six stops in the loss for Oneonta, who drops to 7-5 overall, 1-3 in SUNYAC action.



Pellegrino collected the win, tallying 10 saves for the Mustangs who improve to 7-7 overall, 1-4 in conference play.



Morrisville State is on the road tomorrow at Oswego for a 1 p.m. conference contest.
