Morrisville State ends season with loss at Brockport

Morrisville State College football concluded the 2011 season campaign Saturday afternoon, falling 35-20 to host SUNY Brockport in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action.



Sophomore quarterback Lemar Johnson (Ossining, NY) led the Mustangs in both the running and passing game, compiling 125 yards on the ground on 24 attempts for two touchdown scores, while going 12-for-32 in the air for 128 yards and an interception. Six of Johnson's passes were to sophomore wide out Ricky Demers (Wappinger Falls, NY) for 43 yards, while four went to sophomore receiver Josh Powell (Yonkers, NY) for 56 yards.



Defensively, Eddie Sanders () and Enrique Robinson (St. Paul, MN) led the Mustangs with nine and eight tackles, respectively, while senior linebacker Jamar Clark () added seven. Austin Erlwein () posted six solo stops and recovered a fumble for an 89-yard scoring return.



Brockport outgained the Mustangs in the running game, compiling 345 total yards, including 193 from Tyrone Nichols on 28 attempts and 114 from Dylan Umbra. Both combined for four touchdown scores in the win.



Umbra connected on 8-of-16 passes for 145 yards and a score, three to Jordan Hogan for 67 yards. Nichols added two receptions for 37 yards and touchdown.



Jim Carlson had 12 total stops for the defensive unit, including seven solo, as John O'Hagan added eight, including a sack for a loss of 11 yards.



Brockport jumped out to an early 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter with two rushing scores from Umbra, one just four minutes in on an 13-yard scoring run, and a second with just over two minutes remaining from 24-yards out.



Early in the second, Johnson carried the ball five yards to complete the six play, 59 yard scoring drive for the Mustangs, cutting the lead down to one score, but Brockport answered back with just four seconds remaining with a three yard run from Nichols, to claim the 21-7 lead at the break.



Brockport posted the lone score in the third quarter, as Umbra connected with Nichols on a 38-yard pass play following a Morrisville State punt that positioned the Golden Eagles at midfield.



Morrisville State was able to put together a scoring drive early in the fourth quarter to cut the Brockport lead in half, with Johnson carrying the ball one yard for the score with 9:40 to go in the contest.



On the ensuing drive, an Umbra fumble was recovered by Erlwein and returned 89-yards for a score to bring the Mustangs within eight, but the Golden Eagles added another score late in the quarter to claim the 35-20 victory.



The Mustangs wrap up the season with a 1-9 overall record, 1-8 in conference play.
