Morrisville State drops heartbreaker to William Paterson

The Morrisville State College football team dropped a heartbreaking 31-28 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) loss Saturday afternoon to host William Paterson, as the Pioneers kicked a 20-yard field goal with just 13 seconds remaining for the victory in Wayne, New Jersey.



Morrisville State trailed 14-0 before Sean Barrett (Hopewell Junction, NY) found the end zone on a 13-yard rushing score to cut into the Pioneer lead with 1:30 to go before the end of the quarter. Barrett's score capped off a 10-play, 62-yard drive by the Mustangs.



William Paterson regained the 14 point advantage early in the second and took a 21-7 lead over Morrisville State at the halftime break.



With 10:02 to go in the third, Barrett again found the end zone, completing the Mustangs longest drive of the afternoon (90-yards) with a 14-yard run to make it a 21-14 game. William Paterson responded to regain the 14-point lead.



In the fourth, Morrisville State's offense exploded as Joe Shue (Fulton, NY) found Josh Powell (Yonkers, NY) with 10:19 to go on a 39-yard pass play to bring the Mustangs within striking distance, and with just over a minute remaining, Shue connected with AJ Latta (Middletown, NY) for a 30-yard receiving score to even the contest at 28.



On the ensuing drive, William Paterson's Corey Mundt hit the game winning field goal to capture the victory for the Pioneers.



Shue went 11-for-30 for 248 yards and two scores, throwing three interceptions as Barrett tallied 75-yards on 12 carries on the ground. Kyle Gordon (Riverhead, NY) led the receiving corp with five catches for 139-yards.



Anthony Brown (Rochester, NY) led the Mustangs defensive unit, tallying 12 total tackles, four solo, and forcing a fumble, as Brendan Chrobak (Clinton, NY) had a career high 11 (six solo).



Morrisville State returns to the field Saturday, hosting The College of New Jersey for a noon start on Drake Field in Morrisville.
