Morrisville State College Takes Cheese to New Level

Learn about producing cheese, adding value to milk and how to market value-added products during a statewide cheese business seminar, Reinventing the Wheel: Cheese is the New “Whey,” at Morrisville State College on Friday, April 30.



The event, which is open to the public, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Hamilton Hall. The seminar will offer industry leaders an opportunity to ask questions about forming a cheese-making business.



Presentation topics and times are:



10-10:45 a.m. - “Pressed For Cash: Finance 101.” Craig Pollock, vice president of Farm Credit East in Sangerfield, NY will speak about how to obtain loans and start-up funding.

11 a.m.-12 p.m. - “Making the Grade.” Becca Durant of the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets will talk about the rules and regulations associated with producing and storing cheese.

1-1:30 p.m. - “Penny Pinching Processing.” Students in Morrisville State College's Agricultural Business Development and Dairy Management bachelor degree programs will be assessing the true costs of adding value to milk.

1:30-2 p.m. - “Tricks of the Trade.” Trish Witchley, Morrisville State College cheese artisan and plant manager of the college's Agri-Business Center, will present the ins and outs of quality cheese production.

 2-2:30 p.m.-“Building Blocks of Marketing” by Shawn Migdal, a Morrisville State College Agricultural Business Development bachelor degree student and local entrepreneur.
