Dr. Emad Rahim, assistant professor of entrepreneurship and small business management at Morrisville State College and assistant professor in the Morrisville Venture Connects Program, has been awarded the Certified Manager (CM) of the Year Award by The Institute of Certified Professional Managers (ICPM) of James Madison University.
Rahim, of Syracuse, N.Y., was nominated by CM professional peers and chosen by the ICPM Board of Regents to receive the award based on his outstanding commitment to leadership, community service, continuous professional education and organizational contributions.
Rahim has a rich history of mentoring young leaders, volunteering in his community and participating in numerous activities in the ICPM community.
His involvement includes mentoring young entrepreneurs at the Student Sandbox of Syracuse University and judging several business plan competitions in his community, including the Creative Core Emerging Business Plan Competition.
“Dr. Rahim is a ‘servant leader' who unselfishly extends his time and resources to help others achieve their personal and professional goals,” said Dr. Darrell N. Burrell, a Presidential Management Fellow. “He represents the qualities that we are proud of in our CM members.”
Rahim's dedication and commitment to his students led to the formation of Morrisville Venture Connects offered through a partnership with the Tech Garden, a program which helps adult students find ways to return to the classroom to further their education. It also earned him a 2010 Entrepreneurship Teaching Excellence Award through the Experiential Classroom XI Program at Oklahoma State University.
He recently received additional distinction when he was chosen among faculty across the nation as a finalist for the “CEC Educator of the Year” by Career Education Corporation, and was also accepted into the AACSB Post-Doctoral Bridge Program at Freeman School of Business of Tulane University, New Orleans, L.A., a prestigious research residency which only accepts a handful of applications each year. Graduates of Tulane's program receive certification from the AACSB as academically qualified (AQ) in marketing and management for five years.
In addition to teaching and his involvement in various community endeavors, Rahim is the principal consultant and executive advisor for Global i365, a consulting firm that provides business services specializing in the areas of diversity management, project management, technology, programming, nonprofit development and marketing.
Born in a concentration camp in Cambodia, Rahim, a survivor of the Killing Fields, came to Syracuse in the early 1980s through the support of charities and the refugee program.
Rahim earned his doctorate of management in Organizational Development from the Institute for Advance Studies, and two master's degrees in Project Management and Business Management, all from Colorado Technical University, Colorado Springs. He also holds a bachelor degree in Nonprofit and Community Management and an associate degree in Community and Human Services, both from Empire State College.
