MORRISVILLE, NY–Five Morrisville State faculty/staff members were recently honored with Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence by the State University of New York and SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher.

The honor provides system-wide recognition for consistently superior professional achievement and encourages the ongoing pursuit of excellence.

All winners will be recognized during the college’s 105th commencement ceremony which will be held May 14 at 1 p.m. in the recreation center.
Sheila Marshman
Marshman began her career at Morrisville State College in 2000. A recognized agricultural advocate, she is treasurer and past president of the New York Agri-Women Association, an organization which works on issues affecting the agriculture industry.
Her extensive agricultural experience includes attending the International Agricultural Economics Conference in Beijing, China and participating in a food system tour of rural China as an invited guest of the Renmin University of China. The trip prompted much of her advocacy and education for a local food system in the United States.
Marshman was also previously asked to present during the fifty-sixth session of the Commission on the Status of Women held at the United Nations (UN), and has been a keynote speaker for American Agri-Women 38th annual meeting (2013), and the New Hampshire Women in Agriculture Conference at the New Hampshire Farm & Forest Expo (2014). In 2010, she was named Agricultural Advocate of the Year by Commerce Chenango.
She has made her mark on the college campus, developing the college’s four-year degree in agricultural business development and starting Morrisville Fresh, a for profit business operated and managed by agricultural business students. Through Morrisville Fresh, agricultural business students work closely with the college’s Dairy Incubator and Nelson Farms (food processing facilities), adding value to locally grown commodity-based products. Students have produced their own product line comprised of sauces, dips, aquaponic lettuce, ice cream and cheddar cheese, all made with New York ingredients. They also market their products on campus, to restaurants, and at area farmers’ markets.
Marshman resides with her husband, John, on his family’s sixth-generation dairy farm founded in 1856. The farm has received numerous local, state and national awards for its contributions to agriculture and the food system.
A graduate of the New York State Food and Agricultural Leadership Program (LEADNY Class 11) housed at Cornell University, Marshman is also actively involved in her community, serving as chair of the Town of Oxford Zoning Board of Appeals, serves on the Chenango County Dairy Promotion Committee and the Development Chenango Corporation, the Chenango County Republican Committee, and is a volunteer in Chenango County 4-H. She also holds numerous leadership positions in various agricultural organizations and is a former board member of FarmLink/FarmNet. Most recently, Marshman was elected to the BOCES Board of Education for Delaware, Chenango, Madison, and Otsego Counties.
Marshman earned a Ph.D. from Capella University, an M.B.A. from Le Moyne College, and completed post graduate work at Cornell University and the University at Albany.
Marshman is the daughter of Ken and Barb Murray of Groton, Vt.
Wyatt Galusky
Galusky joined the Morrisville State College staff in 2003. Chair of the Humanities Department and Coordinator of the Science, Technology, & Society program at MSC, he was recently selected to the Public Scholars program of the New York Council for the Humanities.
The newest of the Council’s programs, Public Scholars consists of 31 leading public humanities figures who travel across New York State delivering presentations that encourage both curiosity and collaborative, informal learning on topics that will be used as a way to explore some aspect of pressing contemporary significance.
Galusky’s research explores the various ways in which technologies mediate between humans and the natural world, including domesticated food animals and public engagement with science and technology. His presentations include “Technology as Responsibility: Failure, Food Animals, & Lab-grown Meat,” and “The Dream of Total Control: Science Fact, Science Fiction, and the Transformation of the Animal Body.”
During his tenure at MSC, Galusky has been instrumental in developing new programs and courses and has obtained many grants which have benefited the college, students and the community. He also helped create and produce the college’s Science Technology and Society (STS) Symposium series, which brings together academics, practitioners, students, and members of the community to engage in discussions about our common future, related to the interactions between science, technology, and the broader society.
Active in the community, he is a member of the Community Board of the Upstate Institute at Colgate University and the Max Shacknai Center for Outreach, Volunteerism and Education (COVE), and is a member of the Society for the Social Studies of Science. He also performs in community theatre and writes plays.
Recently, he was a visiting professor at Colgate University, where he held the Gretchen Hoadley Burke ’81 Endowed Chair in Regional Studies.
A prodigious scholar, Galusky has published numerous articles in nationally recognized scholarly journals and has been a presenter at numerous conferences.
Prior to working at Morrisville State College, Galusky worked as an instructor at Virginia Tech. He has also served as a lecturer at Hamilton College.
Galusky earned a Ph.D. in Science & Technology Studies from Virginia Tech, and has a master’s degree in Environmental Ethics from the University of North Texas. Galusky and his wife, Kelly Ann Nugent, live in Clinton.
Rita Goyette
Goyette began her career at Morrisville State College in 1998. During her tenure, she has played a key role in developing the college’s Student Government Organization (SGO) and Campus Activities Board (CAB). She also developed and implemented a Co-Curricular Transcript, a student-initiated record of achievements.
Her career is highlighted with extensive committee and campus service, including: co-chair of the Community/Campus Relations Committee, College Senate representative, Morrisville UUP treasurer, and service on many other committees. She also advises the SGO Executive Board and plays a vital role in coordinating events for Welcome Weekend and Mustang Weekend.
Goyette’s leadership is evident not only on the Morrisville State College campus, but also on a regional and national level. She has been a member of the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities (APCA) since 2004 and serves as the northeast region Co-Op Coordinator; she serves as campus representative on the SUNY College Union and Campus Activities Professionals (CUPCAP); and has served in many areas of the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA).
Goyette’s career has been decorated with honors for outstanding service, including the Northeast Region Advisor of the Year from APCA, the Outstanding Leadership Award from APCA, and the Friend of the Liberal Arts Award from MSC.
She was also voted Best Club/Advisor and Most Outstanding Faculty/Professional Staff, by the MSC student body, a number of years.
Prior to MSC, Goyette worked in the Student Activities Office at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and was coordinator of student activities at Lyndon State College.
Goyette earned a master’s degree in student affairs in higher education, from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and bachelor’s degrees in secondary science education; and natural science, both from Lyndon State College.
She is the daughter of Francis and Alice Goyette, of St. Johnsbury, Vt.
Rachel H. Netzband
Netzband has an extensive teaching career that spans more than 50 years. For the past 13 years, she has been an adjunct professor at MSC, teaching different levels of math, in addition to tutoring on campus.
Prior to MSC, she taught for 30 years in the Syracuse City School District, also serving as math league coach at Henninger for 16 years. Her teaching career, which has been recognized with many teaching awards, also includes Utica College, Cazenovia College and Syracuse University. She also audits courses at Onondaga Community College.
Outside of the classroom, Netzband is an avid volunteer. In her community, she has been involved with the Syracuse Downtown CROPWALK for 25 years, serving as treasurer and volunteer, and at one time, chair.
She is also a member of the Robotics Club, in Fayetteville, serves as president of the Syracuse Stamp Club, sings in the Master’s Touch Chorale, Syracuse, is an active member of the Reformed Church of Syracuse, and is a volunteer at the Unity Kitchen, in Syracuse.
She has three sons, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Nicole Wrght
Wright has been a NYS University Police Officer at Morrisville since January 2012. During that time, she has demonstrated excellence in her commitment to both the Morrisville campus and the community through her varied service.
An Emergency Medical Technician, her skills are vital on the campus and in the community, where she also volunteers at the Central Oneida County Ambulance Corps.
A 2011 graduate of MSC, Wright excelled as an athlete. A member of the volleyball team, she was named the Liberal Arts Student Athlete of the Year, received SUNYAC Academic Honors and was named to the All Academic Team. She was a NEAC Scholar athlete award recipient, and was named Student Athlete of the Week. Additionally, she was named Criminal Justice Student of the Year at MSC, and has also been honored with a Madison County Stop DWI Officer of the Year award.
Wright graduated from the St. Lawrence County Law Enforcement police academy at SUNY Canton. She also earned an A.A.S. in equine science and management and a B.Tech.,both from MSC.
She is a graduate of Dryden High School.
