On Friday, June 10, 2011, Morrisville State College will honor the 2001-02 National Championship Men's Ice Hockey team and former field hockey standout LeeAnne Weigand with induction into the Athletics Wall of Fame as the Class of 2011.
The 2001-02 ice hockey team left an indelible mark on the college hockey landscape during a storied single season campaign that captured the attention of the entire country and united the greater Morrisville community. Skating to an undefeated record of 21-0-3, the Mustangs claimed the Eastern Junior College Hockey League (EJCHL) title, the Region III ice hockey title, and captured the first National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Ice Hockey National Championship title.
A four-sport student-athlete at Morrisville State, Weigand excelled on the playing fields in field hockey, volleyball, basketball and softball. Completing a storied collegiate career in field hockey, Weigand paced the Mustangs to the conference championship as a freshman, while bringing home the New York State Championship runner-up title with an 8-1 overall record. As a sophomore, she tallied 21 goals to lead Morrisville State to the 1976 NYS Championship Title with a 9-1 record, a single season scoring record that still stands today.
The ceremony will be held in the recently completed hospitality suite overlooking Drake Field on the Morrisville State campus. A complimentary cocktail reception has been planned from 5-6 p.m. followed by a buffet dinner and induction ceremony. Tickets are $40 per person, $10 for children ages 7-10, and free for children under 7.
Reservations should be made prior to June 3 by contacting the Morrisville State Alumni Office at (315) 684-6363.
