The Morrisville State College athletics department has joined the fight against cancer for the month of October, raising awareness to the disease as collecting funds to donate to the Carol M. Baldwin Research Fund of CNY.
Near to the hearts of many, throughout the month of October fall athletic teams have designated a day in their athletic schedules to honor the memory of those that have battled the disease and survived, or lost their fight, by wearing special black and pink jerseys during the contest and donating all game proceeds to the cause.
The Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund, Inc. supports both new and established researchers investigating the causes, prevention and treatment of breast cancer.
Field hockey kicks off the month awareness activities, with a home contest against the University of Rochester on Saturday, October 1st and will be joined by cross country on the road at Cazenovia. Football follows a week later, Saturday, October 8th, against Western Connecticut State University.
Men's and women's soccer join the fight on Sunday, October 16th against Gallaudet University and volleyball wraps up on the 21st against SUNY Canton.
Designated as breast cancer awareness month, the athletics department will be holding an online jersey auction in which white and pink football jerseys bearing the “Mustangs Against Cancer” insignia will be auctioned off. The auction can be found at http://athletics.morrisville.edu and will be accepting bids from Monday, September 19 until Thursday, October 6th.
