The Morrisville State College athletic department has announced the addition of men’s golf to its intercollegiate sport offerings, beginning in the fall 2013 semester.
The addition brings the Mustangs athletic offerings to 16 overall, a majority of which competes in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) of the NCAA, Division III.
“I’m very excited about the addition of men’s golf to our intercollegiate athletic offerings,” said Morrisville State College Athletic Director Greg Carroll. “There have been numerous requests from students in the past for us to consider its sponsorship, and at this point in time we are in the perfect position to make the addition.”
The sport will now be sponsored by seven member institutions across the NEAC next season, which will allow the conference to keep its automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championship tournament.
Currently, conference members that sponsor men’s golf are: Wells College, SUNY Cobleskill, Cazenovia, Penn State Berks, Keuka and Penn State.
Morrisville State ice hockey coach, Kevin Krogol, will pull double duty this season, having been selected to serve as the program’s head coach.
The Mustangs will utilize the Cazenovia Country Club, in Cazenovia, for its practice and facility needs, and once the 2013-14 schedule is finalized, it will be released.
“I am confident we will attract quality recruits and be able to be serious contenders for post-season opportunities,” said Carroll.
