Lights out in Morrisville, Mustangs win offensive shootout over Brockport

The Morrisville State College football team picked up their first victory of the 2010 season, posting an upset New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) win over the visiting SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles 48-41 Saturday night under the lights in Morrisville. This was Morrisville's first ever night football game in the history of the college.



The Mustangs improve to 1-3 overall, posting their first NJAC win of the season, while Brockport drops to 1-3 overall, 1-2 in conference action.



Morrisville State won the offensive shootout in the opening quarter, posting a season best 17-points on the board in the first. Brockport was first on the board posting a score with a five play, 65-yard drive capped off by a 16-yard run by Alex Hendrickson (Unadilla, NY) for the early 7-0 lead just minutes into the contest.



Within minutes the Mustangs responded as Joe Shue (Fulton, NY) led Morrisville State's march down field with a 43-yard pass completion to Scott LoMonaco (Dallas, TX) for the evening score. Juan Rios (Grahamsville, NY) put the Mustangs ahead 10-7 hitting his first of two field goals (26 yards) with 5:13 to go before Brockport battled back for the 14-10 lead with a two-yard Hendrickson rushing score.



With 1:10 remaining in the back-and-forth first quarter battle, senior running back Peter Enriquez (Staten Island, NY) posted a touchdown score, sneaking across the goal line for the one-yard score and 17-14 Mustang advantage.



In the second, linebacker Anthony Brown (Rochester, NY) forced a fumble and Jeremy Stewart (Moravia, NY) recovered and returned the ball 74-yards to give Morrisville State the 10-point lead just 22 seconds in.



Brockport countered with a 20-point quarter, the first a 35-yard run from Hendrickson with 13:11 to go, Riedrick Alceus (Haverstraw, NY) a five-yard run with 4:48 remaining and Jordan Hogan (Lockport, NY) a 37-yard scoring reception from Joseph Scibilia (North Tonawanda, NY) with just 53 seconds to go to send the Golden Eagles into the break with a 34-24 advantage over the Mustangs.



Early in the third, Morrisville State's Tommy Moyon (Woodside, NY) intercepted Scibilia and returned the ball to the Golden Eagles 39-yard line setting up the 34-yard passing score from Shue to Kyle Gordon (Riverhead, NY) at 11:25 to bring the Mustangs to within three.



A 20-yard field goal by Rios just four seconds into the final quarter evened the contest for the Mustangs at 34, but Brockport regained the lead on a three-yard rushing score from Adam Erickson (Jamestown, NY) with 10:50 to go in the final stance.



Morrisville State responded on the next drive, putting together a four play, 60-yard march capped off by an eight-yard pass from Shue to AJ Latta (Middletown, NY), equalizing the game for the third time of the night.



The Mustangs defensive unit forced a quick three and out series on the ensuing Golden Eagle drive, to regain possession with 7:29 remaining where Sean Barrett (Hopewell Junction, NY) carried the ball four times, racking up 49 yards, including breaking a tackle around the corner for a 30-yard go ahead score with 3:54 to go.



Brockport put together a last drive attempt, but again the defense made a huge stop as Enrique Robinson (St. Paul, MN) tallied a tackle for a loss and Dwayne Brown (Saint Albans, NY) a sack to drive the Golden Eagles back on the third and fourth down attempts to force the turnover on downs.



Both teams combined for 902-yards total offense with Brockport compiling 511.



Hendrickson led all ball carriers on the ground, carrying 43 times for a game high 310-yards and two scores, while Scibilia went 8-for-13 for 92-yards and a score, throwing three interceptions.



Nate Bull (Brockport, NY) posted nine tackles, three solo, and Mark Emerson (Buffalo, NY) eight to lead the defensive efforts for Brockport.



Barrett had a career high 143-yards rushing on 14 carries for a score while Enriquez added 40 to Morrisville's rushing game.



Shue connected on 17-of-31 attempts for 206-yards and three passing scores and two interceptions. Gordon led the receiving unit with six catches for 95-yards and a score. Rios was perfect on the night for the Mustangs, hitting two field goals (20, 26) and six PAT's.



Morrisville's Anthony Brown had a career night, making 16 stops on defense, including eight solo, and forcing two fumbles as Moyon tallied a best 12 tackles (four solo) and two interceptions. Robinson and Darry Albright (Long Beach, NY) each added nine.



Morrisville State returns to the field Saturday, traveling to William Paterson for a 1 p.m. conference start.
