Learn About Energy Conservation in Courses at Morrisville State College's Renewable Energy Training Center

Morrisville State College's Renewable Energy Training Center (RETC) is hosting two basic energy sessions.



Energy Conservation and Supply Options for Homes will be held April 12 from 6-10 p.m. at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica.



This workshop, for homeowners with little or no background in energy-related areas, presents several simple tools for evaluating options in the areas of energy conservation and fuel choice. Discussion topics include the basics of building heat loss and estimating heat cost, and making comparisons between fuel options.



Participants will receive software for heating load estimating and fuel cost comparison and a Kill-A-Watt meter for measuring the energy used by household appliances.



Fundamentals of Energy Transfer for Renewable Energy Systems will be held April 20 from 6-10 p.m. at the Morrisville State College RETC in Shannon Hall, Room 104B.



This workshop, a primer for more detailed workshops on solar thermal and geothermal heat pump systems, condenses the fundamentals of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics and electrical power into easily understood terms and presents several examples of how they apply to thermally and electrically based renewable energy systems.



Both workshops will be presented by John Siegenthaler, P.E., a mechanical engineering graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and licensed professional engineer with more than 30 years of experience in designing hydronic heating systems. Siegenthaler is a frequent presenter on topics of hyrdonic and radiant heating at national and international conferences and writes about hydronic heating technology for several HVAC trade publications.



Each workshop is $125 with scholarships available to offset costs. Each earns 3.5 PDH and .35 CEU.



The workshops are co-sponsored by Mohawk Valley Community College and the Morrisville State College RETC with the assistance of the Oneida County Workforce Investment Board.
