The Morrisville State College athletics department has named freshman Rob Larkin (Clinton, N.Y.) and senior Austin Townsley (Horseheads, N.Y.) the Mustang Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 21.
Larkin, goalkeeper on the men’s soccer team, recorded his fifth collegiate shutout during the week as Morrisville State posted the 1-0 victory over Wells College. In the contest, he turned away five crucial Express shots to earn his 12th victory of the season, and guarantee a spot for the Mustangs in the conference championship tournament.
The 2011 graduate of Clinton High and New York All-State team selection is majoring in diesel technology at Morrisville State. He is the son of Shannon and Robert Larkin of Clinton.
Townsley, captain of the men’s cross country team, recorded his first invitational win of the season Saturday, topping the field of 46 with a time of 23:00.67 at the Wells College Invitational held in Aurora.
Consistently one of the top runners for the cross country program, the first place finish by Townsley also propelled the Mustangs to the invitational win as four additional runners crossed the line in the top 10. Morrisville State will compete for the conference championship title on Saturday.
The graduate of Horseheads High is majoring in information technology: network administration at Morrisville State. He is the son of Mary and Fran Sherwood of Horseheads.
