Greg Johnsmeyer (West Hurley, N.Y.) and Amanda Hunt (Laceyville, P.A.) became the first Morrisville State College cross country runners to place in the top five at a championship event, placing 5th and 4th, respectively, at Saturday's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championships held at SUNY Cobleskill.
Johnsmeyer finished 5th overall out of 86 runners at the 8K Men's NEAC Championship with a time of 29:44.16, leading the Mustangs to a 3rd place finish overall. Ben Sargrad (Manlius, N.Y.) was the next Mustang to cross the finish line, placing 14th with a time of 30:51.60. Dakota Nelson (Smyrna, N.Y.) followed in 16th place with a time of 31:19.28. Finishing 23rd and 24th were Andrew Klampert (Scarsdale, N.Y.) and Austin Townsley (Horseheads, N.Y.) recording times of 32:09.7 and 32:13.03, respectively. Rounding out the scoring for the Mustangs was Malcolm Legloahec (Brunswick, M.E.) and Shawn Okula (Medford, N.Y.) who placed 27th and 28th, respectively.
Host SUNY Cobleskill captured its third title in four years with a team score of 24. SUNY Institute of Technology, last year's champion, finished in second place with a team score of 44, while Morrisville State College came in third with 81 points. The rest of the team finishes were as follows: Penn State Berks (4th, 145 points), Keuka College (5th, 147 points), Wells College (6th, 165 points), Penn State Abington (7th, 168 points), Lancaster Bible College (8th, 209 points), Penn State Harrisburg (9th, 244 points) and Gallaudet University (10th, 255 points).
Hunt placed 4th overall out of 82 runners at the 5K Women's NEAC Championship, leading the women's team to a 4th place finish with a time of 20:15.33. Next to finish for the Mustangs was Victoria Lanquah(Bronx, N.Y.) who placed 19th with a time of 22:04.13. Kristen Offringa(Napanoch, N.Y.) followed with a 34th place finish, recording a time of 22:49.11. Hillary Courtwright(Chittenango, N.Y.) and D'Ashley Landry(Lake Grove, N.Y.) placed 41st and 43rd with times of 23:49.33 and 24:12.56, respectively. Rounding out scoring for the Mustangs was Brittany Ellis(Camillus, N.Y.) and Jalisa Aydelo(Hempstead, N.Y.).
Host SUNY Cobleskill captured its third straight title with a team score of 36. Cazenovia College finished in second place with a team score of 68, while Wells College came in third with 72 points. The rest of the team finishes were as follows: Morrisville State College (4th, 107 points), Keuka College (5th, 154 points), Penn State Harrisburg (6th, 165 points), Penn State Abington (7th, 172 points), Gallaudet University (8th, 189 points) and SUNY Institute of Technology (9th, 223 points).
