Horses, dairy cows and cockroach composting. What do they have in common with this year’s Great New York State Fair? SUNY Morrisville!
The college can be spotted throughout this year’s fair, which runs Wednesday, Aug. 21-Monday, Sept. 2.
Visit us in multiple locations, including the dairy barn, where our students are assisting with dairy judging, as well as the horticulture building, to see what we are doing with Blatticomposting, a technique that uses cockroaches to convert human food wastes into compost.
You can also see some of our horses at the new interactive 4-H for Horses Building, filled with educational exhibits, interactive demonstrations and opportunities to engage directly with fairgoers.
Check out equine rehabilitation demonstrations at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21, Friday, Aug. 23 and Saturday, Aug. 24 at the 4-H for Horses Building. You can also visit with one of our equine rehabilitation horses, Wednesday through Saturday, Aug. 21-24, a mare and foal from our breeding program Sunday-Tuesday, Aug. 25-27, and learn about our breeding program.
Find out more about our equine and other programs, as well as our master’s degree in food & agribusiness and other programs in the 4-H for Horses Building, located just off the 4-H Youth Building.
You can also see SUNY Morrisville at:
• Agriculture Career Day, Thursday, Aug. 22
• Dairy judging team in the dairy barn, Thursday, Aug. 29
• Dairy Club students on night watch at the Dairy Cow Birthing Center
• Belgian Hitch competing Thursday, Aug. 29 - Sunday, Sept. 1 (SUNY Morrisville is the only college in North America to compete with a six-horse hitch!)
Learn more about the college at its exhibit in the Horticulture Building, where faculty and staff will be answering questions and talking about the engaging, one-of-a-kind learning going on inside and outside of SUNY Morrisville classrooms. You can also pluck a duck to score SUNY Morrisville swag.
Members of our University Police Department will also be at the fair talking about the Police Academy. The Madison County Regional Phase I Police Academy, offered through SUNY Morrisville, with the assistance of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department and the New York State University Police, is designed for current civilian or non-sworn New York State residents who are interested in entering the law enforcement field as a police officer in New York State.
