The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its Men's Lacrosse All-Conference and individual award selections, naming Morrisville State College's senior goalkeeper, Michael Hinchey (Lake Katrine, N.Y.) the 2012 Defensive Player of the Year.

Morrisville State posted a 10-3 regular season record, and finished atop the conference with a perfect 7-0 record for the third straight season, behind a stellar performance in net from Hinchey.

Hinchey, a three time all-conference selection as goalkeeper and first team recipient in 2012, was the backbone of the defensive unit for Morrisville State, starting all 13 games in goal, and playing a total 742 minutes during the regular season, allowing 118 goals, while making 133 saves, for a .530 save percentage and 9.53 goals against average.

Facing over 400 shots alone this season, he collected a record of 10 wins and three losses, and posted a conference season high 15 saves in the win over Keuka, earning him NEAC player of the week honors. He currently ranks second in the conference in minutes played and goals against average, is fourth in saves recorded, and third in save percentage on the season.

The graduate of Kingston High is majoring in technology management at Morrisville State. He is the son of Barbara and Michael Hinchey of Lake Katrine, N.Y.
