Freshman forward Nikki Francis (Pottstown, PA) scored twice, including the game winner, to lead the visiting Penn State Harrisburg women's soccer team to a 5-1 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory over host Morrisville State College Saturday afternoon in Morrisville.
Morrisville State drops to 2-9-1 overall, 1-7-1 in conference play, while the Nittany Lions improve to 6-3 overall, 5-2 in NEAC action.
Jessie Manion (North Wales, PA) put the Nittany Lions on the board first, connecting on a centering pass from Sarah Magnuson (Bangor, PA) 11:10 into the contest. Just over four minutes later, Francis headed the corner kick from Lindsay Haldeman (Grantville, PA) into the net, giving Harrisburg the two goal advantage.
Late in the first half, Kara Hoy (Camp Hill, PA) was left alone in the center of the box, where she fired one past Morrisville State keeper, Jennifer Zidzik (Yardley, PA) for the 3-0 lead at the break.
Morrisville State's Erin Rundle (Marathon, NY) attempted to spark the Mustangs offensive attack, netting an unassisted score 31 seconds into the second half, but Francis and Haldeman each posted a tally as Harrisburg claimed the conference win.
Zidzik tallied 10 saves in the loss for Morrisville State.
Janelle Hammond (New Cumberland, PA) had seven saves in net for Harrisburg.
Morrisville State returns to the field tomorrow, hosting Gallaudet University at 2 p.m. for the “Mustangs Against Cancer” campaign.
Harrisburg is on the road against Cazenovia at 2.
