Visiting Union College field hockey tallied five first half scores, en route to a 6-2 non-conference victory over host Morrisville State College Tuesday afternoon on Drake Field in Morrisville.
The win lifts the Dutchmen to 3-6 overall, while Morrisville State drops to 2-10.
Allison Troy led Union with two goals while teammates Caroline Moran, Ali Flake, Emily Finneran and Hannah Najar each added one apiece. Trista Johnson and Nicole Merigliano were credited with an assist each.
Molly McCune earned the win in net, turning away nine.
Sarah Angerer (Cooperstown, N.Y.) and Breanna Roadarmel (New City, N.Y.) posted the goals for Morrisville State, with Taylor Fields (Schuylerville, N.Y.) and Becky Meyer (Morrisville, N.Y.) picking up the assists.
Nicole Gregg (Lisle, N.Y.) recorded five saves in the loss in net, allowing the first five Dutchmen tallies, before being replaced by Ellen DePasquale (Vernon, N.Y.) for the second half, who turned away four.
Union struck early, posting the first of five straight scores just 4:47 in, as Merigliano crossed the ball in front of cage to an open Troy for the tally. Nearly seven minutes later, the Dutchmen increased the lead to two, as Flake beat Gregg for the tally off the dribble.
Moran made it a 3-0 contest with an unassisted tally from about five yards out in the 19th minute, before Union added another two within a span of three minutes for a commanding five goal lead at the break.
Morrisville State rallied in the second half, putting together a strong offensive effort, outscoring the Dutchmen 2-1.
Midway through the period, Angerer was able to get a stick on the ball and fire it past McCune to put the Mustangs on the board with a rebound tally at 52:29. Union responded just over five minutes later with an unassisted tally from Finneran, giving
the Dutchmen the 6-1 lead.
With time winding down, Meyer fired the ball from the top of the circle that was tipped by Roadarmel for the final Mustang score of the day.
Morrisville State returns to the field Friday, hosting Nazareth College at 3:30 on the Morrisville campus.
