The College of New Jersey overpowers Morrisville State College for 30-6 victory

The College of New Jersey overpowered Morrisville State College and forced six turnovers, leading to a 30-6 conference victory Saturday afternoon in Morrisville.



The Mustangs drop to 1-5 overall, 1-4 in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play, while the Lions improve to 2-5 overall, 2-3 in conference action.



Tyler Olsson (Kendall Park, NJ) put the Lions on the board early in the first quarter, hitting a 28-yard field goal with 11:37 remaining. Just five plays later the Lion's defense turned up the heat as Derek Goreczny (Somerville, NJ) tallied the first of six TNCJ forced turnovers, intercepting Joe Shue's (Phoenix, NY) pass.



With 6:06 minutes remaining in the quarter, Dean Misiura (Holmdel, NJ) recorded the second interception of the afternoon, returning the ball 47-yards, leading to a James Donoghue (Shamong, NJ) nine-yard rushing score into the end zone for the 10-0 lead on the next play.



Early in the second quarter Donoghue completed a 22-yard pass play to William Friedrich (Berlin, NJ) for the score, increasing the Lions lead to 16-0.



Late in the half, Tommy Moyon (Woodside, NY) intercepted and returned the ball for 32-yards to spark the Mustangs attempt to put points on the board, but with seven seconds remaining, Goreczny recorded his second interception of the day to close out the half.



Just two minutes into the third, Lions' Matthew Kreider (Delran, NJ) intercepted Shue and on the ensuing drive, Michael Yetka (Holmdel, NJ) completed a nine play, 69-yard drive with a nine-yard run for the score, increasing the lead to 23.



With just over five minutes remaining in the quarter, Mustang quarterback Lemar Johnson (Ossing, NY) completed a 19-yard pass to Kyle Gordon (Riverhead, NY), putting Morrisville State on the board for the first and only time of the afternoon.



In the fourth, Michael Lambert (Holmdel, NJ) intercepted and returned Johnson's pass 43-yards, leading to a Joe Falco (Ocean, NJ) four-yard rushing score.



Donoghue completed six passes for 88 yards and a score, tallying one interception while recording 73-yards in rushing for the Lions while Yetka tallied 92-yards on 10 carries in the running game.



Kreider led the defensive unit with eight total tackles, five solo, and an interception. Gregory Burns (Hamilton, NJ) added eight, and blocked a kick attempt.



Morrisville's Shue went 7-for-17 for 54-yards and four interceptions. Johnson was 4-for-9 for 37-yards, throwing two interceptions. Sean Barrett (Hopewell Junction, NY) led the Mustangs running game, carrying the ball 12 times for a total of 64 yards. Gordon had six receptions for 41 yards and the lone Mustang touchdown.



Moyon recorded 12 total tackles, for solo, while Anthony Brown (Rochester, NY) added nine in the Mustangs defensive efforts.



The Mustangs return to Drake Field on October 23 to face nationally ranked SUNY Cortland at 1 p.m.
