Clarkson posts 60-55 come-from-behind victory over Morrisville State women

Visiting Clarkson University outscored the Mustangs 31-22 in the second half to post a come-from-behind victory over host Morrisville State College women's basketball Thursday night in Morrisville.



Morrisville State drops to 1-3 overall, while the Knights improve to 4-1.



Dyshea Smiley (Harlem, NY) led all scorers, netting 17 points, 15 in the first half, adding five rebounds, four assists and four steals for the Mustangs, while Tierra Hollins-Hill (Bronx, NY) netted 11, including three from downtown. Nijee Scott (Bronx, NY) added nine points and grabbed a team high 11 boards.



Brooke Butkovsky came off the bench to lead Clarkson with 16 points and 17 rebounds, while Chrissy Scanlon and Leighann Tomita each had 13. Jovanna Snead dished out a game best six assists.



Morrisville State opened the game with a 14-1 run over the first five minutes of the contest as Clarkson struggled from the floor. Five straight turnovers by the Mustangs, however, allowed the Knights to climb back in the game, and Morrisville State was able to hold on to the 33-29 lead at the break.



In the second half, Morrisville State increased their lead to seven with just over 12 minutes remaining, but Clarkson chipped away over the next three minutes before taking their first lead of the night on a lay-up by Butkovsky with 9:24 to go.



Scott regained the one point advantage with 4:41 remaining for the Mustangs, but Butkovsky converted 4-of-5 free throws over the next two minutes to give Clarkson a four point lead with just under two minutes left.



Hollins-Hill hit a three with just over a minute to go to bring Morrisville State to within two, but the Mustangs had a crucial turnover on their next possession that allowed Clarkson to run down the clock.



Morrisville State returns to the court Saturday, hosting Hartwick College at 1 p.m. in the STUAC gymnasium.
