Cazenovia overcomes Mustangs in fifth to claim 3-2 victory

Visiting Cazenovia College women's volleyball overcame a six point deficit in the fifth set Wednesday night to claim the 3-2 victory over host Morrisville State College in Morrisville.



Morrisville State drops to 0-5 overall with the loss, while Cazenovia improves to 2-8 overall.



The Mustangs jumped out to a 1-0 lead, recording the 25-23 victory in the first set before Cazenovia battled back to take the next two, 25-22 and 25-14.



Morrisville State evened the score with a 27-25 win in the fourth set before entering the fifth to break the set tie.



Morrisville State had a 9-3 advantage in the final set, but couldn't hold on as the Wildcat attack evened the score, and then went ahead to claim the match win with a 15-12 victory in the fifth set.



Lauren Harder (Oneonta, NY) paced the Wildcats with a team high 20 kills, adding three service aces and five digs to the Cazenovia efforts, while teammate Carissa Wheeler (Aurora, NY) added 14 kills. Katherin Hurlbut (Holland Patent, NY) and Noelle Sippel (Webster, NY) combined for 43 assists, as Jackie Farrington (Cornwall, NY) posted a team high 24 defensive digs.



Morrisville State's Tiffany Jones-Maxwell (Hamilton, NY) had 16 kills to lead the Mustangs, adding four solo blocks, while teammate Dayna Scurry (Brooklyn, NY) added 13 kills.



Megan Robinson (Cazenovia, NY) posted 36 assists while defensively Lindsay Easterly (Cazenovia, NY) and Meghan Moses (Norwich, NY) added 17 and 13 digs, respectively.



Morrisville State and Cazenovia each return to the floor Saturday, opening North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action in pool play.
