The Morrisville State men's soccer team fell to Lyndon St. in their season opener, 3-1. Morrisville's Sanley Pierre-Louis (Gaithersburg, M.D.) scored the lone goal of the game just under seven minutes in, putting the Mustangs ahead 1-0. The Hornets quickly answered back seven minutes later with a goal from Teague Coyle (Northfield, N.H.), assisted by Patrice Lumumba (Burlington, V.T.) who tallied two assists in the game. Shane O'Donnell-Leach (Groton, V.T.) added the Hornets second goal with ten minutes remaining in the half.
Junior Austin Townsley (Horseheads, NY) led the men's team to a second place finish at the SUNY IT Wildcat Cross Country Invitational, Saturday in Utica. Townsley finished seventh overall with a time of 21:05. Benjamin Sargrad (Manlius, N.Y.) was the next Mustang to cross the finish line, placing 14th with a time of 21:49.7 followed closely by Gregory Johnsmeyer (West Hurley, N.Y.) who placed 16th with a time of 21:53.6. Dakota Nelson (Smyrna, N.Y.) and Malcolm Legloahec (Brunswick, M.E.) rounded out the team scoring, finishing 25th and 41st, respectively.
The Morrisville State College football team rallied for a second half comeback attempt, but fell short, suffering a 14-11 non-conference loss to visiting Hartwick College Saturday night in Morrisville in the 2011 season opener. The Mustangs put together an early 68-yard scoring drive with 11:38 remaining in the fourth to pull to within three, but failed to capitalize on additional opportunities as Hartwick held on for the win.
The Morrisville State College women's volleyball team fell in two matches Saturday afternoon, the first a 3-0 decision to D'Youville followed by a 3-0 decision to Hilbert, in the 2011 season opener at D'Youville College in Buffalo.
The Morrisville State College men's soccer team participated in the Helpers on the Homefront 5k run Saturday, August 27th, raising and donating more than $800 to the Wounded Warrior Project. Founded in 2003, the WWP was created to honor and empower wounded warriors who incur service-related wounds, injuries and illnesses while serving in our country's military branches since September 11, 2001.
The Morrisville State College football program is set to kick-off the 2011 campaign, hosting Hartwick College in a non-conference match-up, Saturday night at 7 p.m. on Drake Field in Morrisville. The Mustangs enter the contest following a 2-8 record (2-7 NJAC, 8th place) in 2010, returning 17 starters to the line-up this season.
Morrisville State College athletic director, Greg Carroll, and head cross country coach, Derek Powers, announced the addition of Carolyn Pinkerton as assistant coach in the fall 2011. Pinkerton enjoyed a standout career as a member of the cross country and outdoor track and field teams at Assumption College, earning Freshman of the Year honors as well as NE-10 Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week. Unfortunately, both programs were discontinued following her sophomore year.
Morrisville State College athletic director, Greg Carroll, and head men's soccer coach, Kyle Graves, announced the addition of Hanns Von Packal as assistant coach in the fall 2011. Von Packal comes to Morrisville from Cazenovia High School where he served as the head coach of the girls' varsity program. Prior to his stint at Cazenovia, he served as head coach of the Odyssey Soccer Club, and had been involved with several camps and clinics; including serving as a DFBA head youth clinician for five years.
Morrisville State College fall student-athletes took a break during preseason workouts Friday to assist with new student move in day on the campus, kicking off the 2011-12 athletic department community service efforts for the upcoming year. Student-athletes from both the football and men's soccer programs offered assistance unloading moving trucks and helping new students move items into their dorm rooms, as Morrisville State welcomed the class of 2015.
The New Jersey Athletic Conference announced its 2011 pre-season football poll Wednesday morning, selecting Morrisville State College ninth. Morrisville State compiled a 2-8 record (2-7 NJAC) in their fourth season within the conference in 2010, posting league wins over Brockport and Western Connecticut. Returning 17 starters to the squad this season, the Mustangs will open the 2011 campaign Saturday, September 3 at home under the lights against non-league opponent Hartwick College.
