Visiting Morrisville State College football scored twice in the fourth quarter, but fell short as host, The College of New Jersey, collected the 28-14 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) victory Saturday afternoon in Ewing, New Jersey. Morrisville State drops to 0-3 overall, 0-2 in conference action while TCNJ remains undefeated at 3-0, 2-0 in NJAC play. Playing to a scoreless first quarter, TCNJ was first to put numbers on the scoreboard, with James Donoghue completing a 30 yard run for the score midway through the quarter.
The Morrisville State men's soccer team scored first, but couldn't hold onto the lead, as they tied conference rival Cazenovia 1-1 this afternoon. The Mustangs are now 1-4-3 overall and 1-1-2 in the NEAC, while the Wildcats are 3-4-1 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play. Morrisville State took control of the game early on, scoring the first goal 8:14 into the first half when Sanley Pierre-Louis (Gaithersburg, M.D.) slotted the ball past Wildcats goalkeeper, Riley Battaglini (Endicott, N.Y.), off of a pass from Gilroy Alvarez (Guatemala).
Austin Townsley and Amanda Hunt both posted personal bests Saturday at the Hylander Invitational held at Houghton College. Townsley ran a 26:59.18 in the 8k placing 19th, while Hunt posted a time of 20:44.31 in the 5k race finishing 62nd. Overall the men's team finished 10th out of 16 teams and the women finished 11th out of 11 teams.
Katie Farley scored two goals and assisted two others to lead the SUNY Geneseo Knights to the 5-0 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory over visiting Morrisville State College Friday afternoon in Geneseo. Morrisville State drops to 0-5 overall, 0-2 in conference action. Paige Jerrett (Parrish, NY) recorded the loss in net, posting three saves in the first half, and allowing three goals. Laura Blumenfeld (Rockland, NY) played the final 35 for the Mustangs, recording four saves on six shots on goal.
The Morrisville State College men's soccer team defeated conference rival SUNY Cobleskill this afternoon 3-0. The Mustangs now improve to 1-4-2 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play, while the Fighting Tigers fall to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the NEAC. Sanley Pierre-Louis (Gaithersburg, M.D.) put the Mustangs on the board first at 18:29 into the contest. Pierre-Louis headed a direct kick from Joey Plummer (Gates, N.Y.) past Cobleskill goalkeeper Patrick Cobane (Delhi, N.Y.). The score remained 1-0 at the end of the first half.
The Morrisville State College athletics department has joined the fight against cancer for the month of October, raising awareness to the disease as collecting funds to donate to the Carol M. Baldwin Research Fund of CNY. Near to the hearts of many, throughout the month of October fall athletic teams have designated a day in their athletic schedules to honor the memory of those that have battled the disease and survived, or lost their fight, by wearing special black and pink jerseys during the contest and donating all game proceeds to the cause.
The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) office has announced its weekly award winners, naming Morrisville State College's Austin Townsley (Horseheads, NY) the Co-Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 18. This is the second time Townsley has been name NEAC Athlete of the Week for the 2011 season.
The New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) announced its football players of the week, naming Morrisville State College's junior linebacker, Enrique Robinson (St. Paul, MN) the Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 17. Robinson was key to the Mustangs defensive efforts in the 20-19 conference loss to No. 10 Montclair State on Saturday. He completed the game with 11 total tackles, including three solo stops and one for a loss of a yard. He also registered a pass break-up in the unit that limited Montclair to just 170 net yards passing.
The Morrisville State College men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie against visiting Hilbert College this afternoon. The Mustangs were first to score when Jeffrey Sekyere (Bronx, N.Y.) placed a deflection from David Cerasani (Beaver Meadow, N.Y.) past Hawks goalkeeper Kamil Cislak (Lancaster, N.Y.) with just under 10 minutes left to play in the first half. Morrisville State held the lead until just over 35 minutes into the second half when Ed Sarcione (Eden, N.Y.) put the Hawks on the board with an unassisted goal.
Visiting SUNY New Paltz tallied two goals in the first half and added two more in the second, to claim the 4-1 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory Saturday evening in Morrisville. Morrisville State took the early 1-0 lead, netting the first score of the contest just 45 seconds in as Rebecca Meyer (Morrisville, NY) found Rebecca Quackenbush (Barker, NY) on the left of cage for the one-timer score.
