Dear Campus Community,
Three weeks ago, we announced an extended pause on campus visitors, effective until Monday, Oct. 5.
Following our latest review, in addition to the daily monitoring of COVID-19 cases (no positive cases reported for residential students, faculty and staff as of today), we have revised the policy to now allow some visitation in residence halls.
Effective this coming Monday, Oct. 5, students who currently reside in a residence hall are allowed to visit with other students living in residence halls. Visitors from off-campus continue to be prohibited.
The limit remains at no more than two visitors per room at once and no more than 10 people per suite in Commons. Masks properly worn over your mouth and nose are still required at all times, and physical distancing also is strongly encouraged whenever possible.
At this time, commuter students and students living off campus are not allowed to visit residence halls. While we understand this may come as unfortunate news, it remains our safest option to help pinpoint any positive COVID-19 cases that may be discovered through our twice-weekly wastewater testing. Should COVID-19 be detected in the wastewater for a specific building on campus, pooled saliva testing is then administered to identify the source and halt the spread of the virus. This becomes much more difficult when facilities are used by those who do not live in the building or on campus.
This updated visitor policy remains in effect until further notice.
Existing procedures within our current policy still remain in effect:
- SUNY Morrisville facilities and buildings are open only for official college business and are not open to the general public.
- Students who are studying remotely will be granted access to campus from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends. Non-residents are not permitted in residence halls at any time.
- Visitors will be permitted access to academic buildings only when they have been invited by a Campus Host and preregistered.
This visitor policy is subject to change at any time and will be updated as the needs of the college change due to the COVID-19 pandemic, or at the direction of the NYS Governor’s Office. Thank you and stay safe!
