Senior Lyndsey Brognano (Rome, N.Y.) posted a team high 28 points to lead the visiting SUNY IT Wildcats women’s basketball team to a 75-41 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory over host Morrisville State Wednesday afternoon in Morrisville.
The Mustangs fall to 0-11 overall, 0-4 in conference play, while SUNYIT improves to 4-5, posting a 2-1 conference record.
Brognano tallied 15 in the first half alone, adding a total eight rebounds, six steals and three assists to her tallies by game end. Abbey Hanahan (Stillwater, N.Y.) posted 11 points for SUNY IT to round out top scorers for the Wildcats.
Queen Holquin (Bronx, N.Y.) was the lone Mustang to reach double figures, leading the team with 11, while Courtney Purcell (Fabius, N.Y.) chipped in nine. Holquin dished out three assists, adding five steals, while collecting a team best five rebounds.
Morrisville State trailed 35-25 at the half before the Wildcats opened the second half with a 10-4 run to open up the contest to a 16 point advantage.
A Lauren Knowles (Salisbury Mills, N.Y.) jumper with 9:05 gave SUNYIT a 56-36 lead, its largest on the day before Morrisville State posted two quick scores in an attempt at a comeback.
But the Wildcats defense was able to hold the Mustangs scoreless over the final 7:55, while closing the contest with a 16-0 spurt of their own.
Morrisville State returns to the court Saturday, hosting Lancaster Bible at 1 p.m.
