Visiting Penn State Abington women's soccer posted a 2-1 lead at the half and added two more in the second to claim the 4-2 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory over host Morrisville State College Sunday afternoon in Morrisville.
Alyssa Tunkel (East Meadow, NY) gave Morrisville State an early 1-0 lead, connecting on a free kick from outside the box just 3:03 into the contest.
Morrisville State maintained the goal advantage until the 34th minute, when Abington's Brittany Middleton put one past Cheyanna Waters (Woodhull, NY) to even it at one. Nearly three minutes later, Abington took the lead as Middleton connected with Lauren Corcoran into the left of the net.
Just 1:07 into the second half Colleen McCarthy extended the Nittany Lion lead to two, hitting from outside the right side of the box.
Beth Fisher (Bolton Landing, NY) brought the Mustangs within one in the 56th minute, catching Abington keeper Danielle Fontaine out of the net, but the Nittany Lions put the game away with a score from Kaitlin Kozole at 77:46.
Waters recorded the loss, making 10 stops in 83 minutes of play. Sara Boudah (Middlebury, VT) played the final seven minutes in net.
Fontaine had six saves for Abington.
Morrisville State (1-10, 0-7 NEAC) returns to the field Saturday at Gallaudet.
