Katie Flaschner (East Amherst, NY/The Nichols School) scored one goal and set up three others as the University of Rochester defeated Morrisville State, 8-1, in field hockey at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
Seven different players scored goals for the Yellowjackets. Michelle Relin (Lititz, PA/Manheim Township) scored two goals. Gina Cunningham (Pittsburgh, PA/Shady Side Academy), Lindsey Randall (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon), Megan Keil (Syracuse, NY/Camden), Mimi Adar (Rochester, NY/Brighton), and Nicole Cerza (Clarence, NY/Clarence) had single goals. Sarah Dixon (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and Shelby Hall (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) registered assists.
Rochester improved to 12-3 overall. The Yellowjackets are ranked #20 in Division III this week by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. Morrisville is 2-13.
Three goaltenders split time in the cage for Rochester. Madison Wagner (Cheswick, PA/Fox Chapel) logged the first 17:26. She made two saves and got the win, her 12th of the season. MacKenzie Sherwood (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) played 30:57, making one save and allowing the Morrisville goal. Tara Lamberti (Penfield, NY/Penfield) played the final 21:37. She did not have to record a save.
Taylor Fields (Schuylerville, NY/Schuylerville) scored the Morrisville goal at 43:55. It came less than a minute after Cunningham put Rochester ahead, 5-0. Fields was six yards off the line in the center of the circle when she flipped the ball into the right side of the net.
Ellen DePasquale (Vernon, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) made 18 saves in 70 minutes in the Morrisville cage. Rochester held a 40-5 advantage in shots, 26-4 in shots on goal. The Yellowjackets had 21 penalty corners to three for the Mustangs.
Flaschner lobbed the ball into the top corner of the net after a penalty corner from Dixon at 7:17. Relin and Randall scored in a 56-second span to put Rochester ahead, 3-0, after 10:22. Relin scored on a rebound in the 27th minute.
Cunningham’s goal made it 5-0 Rochester at 43:00. Fields got the Mustangs on the board before Cerza, Adar, and Keil scored in the last 22 minutes. Flaschner had assists on each of the three goals.
