Hello everyone! I am Tyler R. Colbert, an assistant professor at SUNY Morrisville’s nursing division, and I joined the Morrisville nursing faculty in Fall ‘23. Prior to Morrisville, I have worked at multiple other SUNY institutions, including the University at Buffalo. At UB, I received three degrees: a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 2013, accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree in 2014, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree in 2019. I was a Teaching Assistant at UB from 2016 to 2019 as well. After graduating with my DNP, I achieved my adult-gerontology primary care nurse practitioner board certification (AGPCNP-BC) from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

I have broad clinical experience, however I have always gravitated to primary care, outpatient, and community health settings. These environments are most conducive to evidence-based chronic disease management, primary prevention of health complications, comprehensive patient health assessments, and practical patient education. I have concordant research interests, which include transitions of care, retention in nursing education, and optimization of patient education and disease self-management. For me, the most gratifying elements of working in nursing education is observing the process of formerly apprehensive nursing students becoming proficient professional nurses and life-long learners, and ultimately helping to facilitate their professional growth through novel and innovative teaching methods.

Outside of my professional capacity, I have a number of hobbies I enjoy. I thoroughly enjoy cooking, reading, running, hiking, following news and current events, and learning more about science and philosophy. I have a large extended family and enjoy visiting them in western New York, the North Country, and closer to home in Utica.
