Students at Morrisville State College are rolling up their sleeves to help out on campus and in the community during a month of service which is already in progress.
During the “April Month of Service,” students are performing tasks and services needed by residents in neighboring areas. Events will also roll over into May.
On April 29 and May 1, free oil changes for the elderly will be performed by the School of Science and Technology, from 1-5 p.m. Clients were pre-selected through the Madison County Office for the Aging.
The Morrisville State College women's lacrosse team continues to take a stand against domestic violence with their fundraising campaign, “Reach Out, Speak Up, Plan On,” which culminates on April 27 when the Mustangs take on conference opponent Wells College at 1 p.m. on Drake Field. The campaign benefits the Vera House and One Love Foundation, organizations that provide assistance to victims of domestic violence.
The public is invited to “Don't be a Spectator. Be a Sport,” a family fun night of activities for all ages on May 2, from 6-8 p.m. in the recreation center. The event, sponsored by the human performance and health promotion program, includes child safety awareness, and physical activities such as T-ball and a soccer shoot.
Additional events planned during “April Month of Service” include:
- April 20-Child's Play Charity Video Game Fundraiser, sponsored by CSTEP/STEP
- Yard clean-ups for the elderly
- April 29-blood drive from 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in Hamilton Hall
- Thursdays-volunteers assist at the Friendship Inn at St. Joan's Church in Morrisville, from 1:30-5 p.m.
- Mondays-volunteers assist, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., with the Office for the Aging's Nutrition Program
