The Morrisville State College women's softball team boosted their conference record to 8-4, sweeping rival Cazenovia College in double-header action by 6-2 and 8-7 final scores Tuesday afternoon in Morrisville.
Morrisville State has a 11-13 overall record, and continues to be a threat in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC), currently ranking third overall in the North Division.
Morrisville State posted a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning and added two more runs in the fifth, while the Mustangs defense held Cazenovia to just one final run, claiming the 6-2 victory in the first of the day.
Jenna D'Ercole (Highland, NY) threw the win for Morrisville State, pitching seven innings and allowing two earned runs on four hits, while recording nine strike outs.
Gabby Gallart (Montgovery Village, MD) was 2-for-4 from the plate, driving in three RBI's for the Mustangs, while Cassandra Smith (Lansing, NY) was 1-for-1 with two runs and an RBI.
In the nightcap, Sara Croop (Marathon, NY) drove in the game winning run for the Mustangs in the bottom of the sixth, while the Morrisville State defense held the Wildcats to just one run in the next inning to secure the 8-7 victory.
Kate Jones (Valley Cottage, NY) led the Mustangs from the plate, hitting two-of-three, while crossing home plate three times, with teammate Nicole Geier (Mayfield, NY) hitting 2-of-3 for a run and two RBI's.
D'Ercole posted the win on the mound, striking out three.
Morrisville State returns to the field Thursday at Wells College.
