Visiting Nazareth College field hockey used a five goal first half to top host Morrisville State College by a 7-3 final Friday afternoon in Morrisville.

Morrisville State falls to 2-11 overall, while the Golden Flyers improve to 2-9.

Jamie Anderson (Harpursville, N.Y.) led the Mustangs with a goal and two assists, while teammates Rebecca Meyer (Morrisville, N.Y.) and Rebecca Quackenbush (Barker, N.Y.) each added one tally apiece.

Nicole Gregg (Lisle, N.Y.) posted the loss in net, saving one, while allowing five goals in the first period. Ellen DePasquale (Vernon, N.Y.) turned away in the second half.

Seven different Nazareth players recorded scores on the day, including Alexis Root who posted a goal and assisted two others.

Shannon Winney made 13 stops in the win for the Golden Flyers.

Just four minutes in, Anderson fired a shot from the top of the circle past Winney on a penalty corner opportunity, giving Morrisville State the early 1-0 lead. Ilze Stots (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) was credited with the assist off the corner feed.

Nearly six minutes later, Nazareth responded with an equalizing chip shot in the center of the circle that found its way past Gregg, sparking a 5-0 Golden Flyer run for a commanding 5-1 lead at the break.

Early in the second, Root continued the Nazareth attack, tipping the ball in front of cage for a 6-1 lead.

Awarded a penalty corner in the 49th minute, Morrisville State posted their second score, as Anderson found Meyer on the left for the tally. Less than a minute later, the Mustangs converted another penalty corner, with Anderson dishing the ball to Quackenbush on the right for the chip inside the left post.

Nazareth added a final tally at 55:56 and was able to withstand a late Morrisville State offensive threat, to earn the non-conference victory.

The Mustangs return to the field tomorrow, hosting SUNY Cortland at 11 a.m.
