Host Morrisville State College softball dropped two Saturday afternoon, as visiting Keuka College Storm collected 10-2 victories in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) double header in Morrisville.
Morrisville State falls to 8-10 overall, 3-7 in conference play, while the Storm improve to 8-6 overall, 8-2 in NEAC action.
Tied 1-1 after three innings, Keuka used strong bats in the fourth and fifth innings to take a commanding seven run lead and topped off the contest with a score each in the sixth and seventh, handing Morrisville State the 10-2 loss.
Jessica Bandrowski led Keuka from the plate, going 3-for-3, including a double and two RBI's, while Haley Jordan went 2-for-2, one hit a double, while batting in one. Danielle Gravel collected the win on the mound, throwing seven innings while allowing four hits and two runs. Gravel also went 1-for-3 from the plate, hitting one over the left field fence.
Samantha Porter (Newfield, N.Y.) was 1-for-2 and posted a run, while Aryel Lawson (Staten Island, N.Y.) went 1-for-3, and tallied the lone additional score to lead Morrisville State.
Jenna D'Ercole (Highland, N.Y.) recorded the loss, throwing four innings and allowing five hits and seven runs (six earned), while posting five strikeouts. Maranda Owens (Brookfield, N.Y.) relieved D'Ercole for the final three innings, allowing six hits and three runs, while posting four strike outs.
In the second on the day, Keuka had a four run burst in the second inning and added three more to take a 7-0 lead before Morrisville State battled back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Storm put the game out of reach in the top of the sixth, adding three additional scores to collect the 10-2 victory in six innings.
Keuka's Jill Hart went 2-for-3 from the plate, including a triple, while driving in two runs and crossing the plate twice. Sara Sloan collected the win on the mound, throwing all six innings and allowing six hits, two runs (one earned), while registering six strikeouts.
Monique Smith (Bronx, N.Y.) led the Mustangs, going 2-for-3 from the plate, as Porter collected a hit on two at bats.
Owens recorded the loss, throwing four innings, allowing six hits and seven runs, while posting two strikeouts. Paige Jerrett (Parish, N.Y.) threw the final two innings, allowing two hits, three earned runs while striking out three.
Morrisville State returns to the field tomorrow, traveling to SUNY Cobleskill for a noon start.
