Visiting Morrisville State College men’s lacrosse struggled in the opening half of action Saturday afternoon, turning the ball over 16 times alone in the first 30 minutes, as host SUNY Potsdam collected the 10-4 non-conference victory in Potsdam.
Morrisville State drops to 0-2 overall, while Potsdam picks up the first win of the season at 1-0.
The Bears came out of the gates on fire, posting the first score of the afternoon just 56 seconds into the opening quarter, before rattling off five additional tallies for the 6-0 advantage after one.
Potsdam added two additional goals early in the second before Louis Geswaldo (Lafayette, N.Y.) put the Mustangs on the scoreboard at 10:19.
An early third quarter Bear score found the Mustangs trailing 10-1, before Brendan Shannon (Stanhope, N.J.) and John Sherlock (Tully, N.Y.) posted back-to-back tallies for Morrisville State, cutting the margin to seven with just over 11 minutes remaining in the quarter.
David Middlemore (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) added the final Mustang score with 8:51 remaining in the frame before both teams played to a scoreless fourth quarter.
Chris Fiore (Staten Island, N.Y.) posted the loss between the pipes, turning away 14.
Potsdam forced 25 total turnovers on the day, including 16 in the first half, and held the 46-23 advantage in shots over the Mustangs.
Morrisville State returns to the field Wednesday, traveling to Plattsburgh State for a 4 p.m. face-off.
